I also don't believe something like Shrek the Musical would be nearly as popular of a community theatre pick if the HD recording of it wasn't super accessible.Īs someone who loves musical theatre, I want the medium to be as accessible as possible rather than limiting itself to an upper class audience. It's been nice to see so many young Falsettos fans, for example, and I believe most of those fans probably wouldn't have had the chance to discover it if PBS didn't release an HD copy of it. I'm sure many of these people would be willing to pay for pro-shoots of shows if they were available, but alas, they rarely have a choice. With the internet, there are now more Broadway fans who live nowhere near New York than ever, and those fans are often unwilling to travel across borders and pay hundreds of dollars to see a single show. It's indicative of a market that Broadway producers really aren't properly taking advantage of. Before posting, please message the mods to coordinate when you'll be posting and proof.
